The Lions let Sturdivant fall and pounced. Final grade: B. Somebody in the Round 7 slot was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Lions sat still while J.Michael Sturdivant, the No. 191 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
Tengesdahl has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick27
Rnd1
Jake Slaughter
Fair-plus on Jake Slaughter, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick89
Rnd3
Whit Weeks
Whit Weeks slipping to pick 89 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The roster fit checks out.
Pick91
Rnd3
Sonny Styles
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Sonny Styles at the 91st overall pick is the proof. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick100
Rnd3
Carson Beck
Carson Beck at the Round 3 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick125
Rnd4
Daylen Everette
The board had Daylen Everette higher than slot 125, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick127
Rnd4
Luke Hasz
Luke Hasz at No. 127 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick171
Rnd5
Jaishawn Barham
They paid a round early for Jaishawn Barham in pick No. 171, more than the board wanted. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick205
Rnd6
Elliot Washington II
Elliot Washington II at Round 6, Pick 29 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick222
Rnd7
J.Michael Sturdivant
Somehow J.Michael Sturdivant was still sitting there in the 222nd pick, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. It fills a real need, too.
Pick240
Rnd7
Rueben Owens
By-the-book stuff, Rueben Owens at No. 240 squarely in line with his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick255
Rnd7
Evan Tengesdahl
Evan Tengesdahl in the 255th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
