The tape said wait; the Bengals did not. Myles Murphy went at the Round 5 slot, a good 46 picks before the board was ready.

The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. Getting Thomas Jr. where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.

The Bengals paired the rookies with proven help, David Njoku leading the way. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.

In short, the board sent warnings, and they will be hoping it was wrong.
