Grand theft in pick 224: the Lions steal Hancock and grade out a B+. The board owed the Lions one, and it paid up: Jordan Hancock, the No. 162 name on the board, sitting there at the Round 7 slot like a gift left on the doorstep. More right than wrong, and a B+ to match.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. Leaving cornerback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.
Pick Analysis
Pick66
Rnd3
Kyle Kennard
They went early on Kyle Kennard in slot 66, and the value did not follow. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick131
Rnd4
Kyren Lacy
Kyren Lacy in Round 4, Pick 30 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It fills a real need, too.
Pick196
Rnd6
Simeon Barrow Jr.
Taking Simeon Barrow Jr. in pick 196 is close to grand larceny; an interior defensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick224
Rnd7
Jordan Hancock
The board fumbled Jordan Hancock all the way to the Round 7 slot, and they scooped it up. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick229
Rnd7
Joshua Gray
They barely believed it either: Joshua Gray still on the board at pick No. 229. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick247
Rnd7
Woody Marks
Woody Marks in the 247th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
