Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesC- FutureA
Good, not great, for the Patriots: B-.

There is conviction, and then there is this. The Patriots took Drew Kendall a full 54 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.

They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Williams.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick14 Rnd1 Josh Simmons
In pick No. 14 they get a plug-and-play piece up front. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick38 Rnd2 Emeka Egbuka
They read the board right and Emeka Egbuka was the payoff at the Round 2 slot. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick45 Rnd2 Tre Harris
They jumped the gun on Tre Harris, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick69 Rnd3 Tate Ratledge
No edge and no loss on Tate Ratledge in pick 69; it is a wash and a sensible one. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick77 Rnd3 Andrew Mukuba
Andrew Mukuba in slot 77 is fair value, right on his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick106 Rnd4 Smael Mondon Jr.
No drama and no debate, Smael Mondon Jr. went about where he belonged in Round 4, Pick 4. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick144 Rnd5 Nohl Williams
They let Nohl Williams come to them and pounced at pick 144. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick171 Rnd5 Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins
This one needs a full-page explanation: Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins in Round 5, Pick 33, miles early. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick220 Rnd7 Luke Lachey
A slide stopped in No. 220, with Luke Lachey worth more than the price. It fills a real need, too.
Pick238 Rnd7 Drew Kendall
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Drew Kendall well ahead of where he belonged. The roster fit checks out.
