Draft Grade — Bears
Overall
A-

TradesA+
FutureA+
Maye is the Bears' new face under center. Grade: A-. The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Bears spent their marquee pick on Drake Maye, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. Little to argue with here, and the A- says so.
Getting Thomas Jr. where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. They will need Bishop to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Bottom line, with Drake Maye leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick Analysis
Pick5
Rnd1
Drake Maye
In Round 1, Pick 5 they get a passer to set the clock by at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick28
Rnd1
Rome Odunze
In pick 28 they get a difference-maker at receiver, outstanding value to boot. A real need, handled.
Pick37
Rnd2
Jackson Powers-Johnson
A tidy little value on Jackson Powers-Johnson in pick No. 37, a step better than break-even. The roster fit checks out.
Pick58
Rnd2
Cooper DeJean
Steal is underselling it; Cooper DeJean at slot 58 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick69
Rnd3
Brian Thomas Jr.
Brian Thomas Jr. in the 69th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick75
Rnd3
Ruke Orhorhoro
Fair-plus on Ruke Orhorhoro, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick76
Rnd3
Brenden Rice
A big swing on Brenden Rice at No. 76, well ahead of any board in the building. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick77
Rnd3
Devontez Walker
They did well to land Devontez Walker in the 77th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick78
Rnd3
Cole Bishop
Cole Bishop at pick No. 78 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
