Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall
D+
ValueB

TradesF
FutureB-
The Steelers won the night they stopped Johnson from sliding. Grade: D+. You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Steelers did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high.
The Thornton Jr. pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Johnson value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, quarterback very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick21
Rnd1
Kenneth Grant
In slot 21 they get a wrecking ball inside. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick37
Rnd2
Nick Emmanwori
Nick Emmanwori slid further than he should have, and pick 37 is lovely value for the safety. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick83
Rnd3
Kaleb Johnson
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Kaleb Johnson in No. 83, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick156
Rnd5
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Value said wait; Dont'e Thornton Jr. in the 156th pick says they were not listening. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick185
Rnd6
CJ West
CJ West in the 185th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick229
Rnd7
Craig Woodson
They let Craig Woodson come to them and pounced at the Round 7 slot. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
