Draft Grade — Chiefs

FutureB-
The Chiefs let Wheatley fall into their laps, and walked away with a D-. You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Chiefs did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. Hard to defend, and the D- reflects that.
That offensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. However the rest shakes out, Wheatley at that price is a win they earned.
The Cisse reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, offensive lineman very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick9
Rnd1
Peter Woods
In No. 9 they get juice off the edge. A real need, handled.
Pick19
Rnd1
Jeremiyah Love
In pick 19 they get a workhorse for the backfield at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick40
Rnd2
Brandon Cisse
They liked Brandon Cisse enough to skip the value, taking him in the 40th pick. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick74
Rnd3
Eli Stowers
Nothing to complain about; Eli Stowers went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick109
Rnd4
Zakee Wheatley
Zakee Wheatley at the 109th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick146
Rnd5
Bryce Lance
Bryce Lance at Round 5, Pick 8 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick176
Rnd5
Davison Igbinosun
Davison Igbinosun in No. 176 is fair value, right on his grade. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
