Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall

FutureB-
The 49ers bled value on every deal, hence the D-. There is reaching, and then there is Christian Mahogany at slot 68. The 49ers jumped the board by 30 and dared it to prove them wrong.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. Spending an early pick on cornerback with interior defensive lineman and linebacker open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.
The Johnson pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
A rough weekend that leaves the roster with more questions than answers.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Kool-Aid McKinstry
They did well to land Kool-Aid McKinstry in the 31st pick, just ahead of his grade. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick34
Rnd2
Jordan Morgan
Jordan Morgan in pick 34 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick63
Rnd2
Cade Stover
A reach on Cade Stover in pick No. 63; the board had better options right there. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick68
Rnd3
Christian Mahogany
Value said wait; Christian Mahogany in Round 3, Pick 4 says they were not listening. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick94
Rnd3
Khyree Jackson
A surprising call. With interior defensive lineman and linebacker still to address, they spent No. 94 on Khyree Jackson, a cornerback they were not short of.
Pick103
Rnd4
Malik Washington
Malik Washington slid further than he should have, and slot 103 is lovely value for the wide receiver. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick131
Rnd4
Isaac Guerendo
Nothing to complain about; Isaac Guerendo went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick133
Rnd4
Jalyx Hunt
Jalyx Hunt in the 133rd pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick176
Rnd6
Tykee Smith
They read the board right and Tykee Smith was the payoff at Round 6, Pick 1. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick193
Rnd6
Drake Nugent
Drake Nugent in No. 193 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick211
Rnd6
Tahj Washington
Steal is underselling it; Tahj Washington at pick No. 211 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick215
Rnd6
Cornelius Johnson
Cornelius Johnson at the Round 6 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick251
Rnd7
Sam Hartman
They paid a round early for Sam Hartman in pick 251, more than the board wanted. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
