Draft Grade — Patriots

FutureB-
Daniels is the plan now, and the Patriots grade out a B-. The Patriots spent the pick that matters most on Jayden Daniels, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
Spending an early pick on OLB-EDGE with edge rusher and interior defensive lineman open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. Landing Powers-Johnson that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
They will need Paul to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick6
Rnd1
Jayden Daniels
In the Round 1 slot they get the face of the franchise at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick34
Rnd2
Patrick Paul
Patrick Paul at the 34th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick37
Rnd2
Tyler Guyton
A straight-up fair deal on Tyler Guyton at pick No. 37, value and slot in agreement. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick47
Rnd2
Ja'Lynn Polk
A conviction pick on Ja'Lynn Polk at the 47th overall pick that the board grades a round light. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick68
Rnd3
Jackson Powers-Johnson
Jackson Powers-Johnson in Round 3, Pick 4 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick98
Rnd3
Khyree Jackson
Khyree Jackson at No. 98 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick103
Rnd4
Javon Solomon
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Javon Solomon adds an OLB-EDGE and leaves edge rusher and interior defensive lineman untouched.
Pick139
Rnd5
Tommy Eichenberg
They let Tommy Eichenberg come to them and pounced at slot 139. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick182
Rnd6
Kitan Oladapo
Kitan Oladapo slid further than he should have, and the 182nd overall pick is lovely value for the safety. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick224
Rnd7
Brevyn Spann-Ford
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Brevyn Spann-Ford. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick232
Rnd7
Blake Watson
Blake Watson at the 232nd pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the running back. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
