Draft Grade — Bears
Overall A-
ValueB NeedB TradesA+ FutureA+
Best value of the weekend goes to the Bears for Watts: A-.

Whoever sat across the table from the Bears should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend. A near-flawless weekend of work, and a A- to cap it.

That is an edge rusher worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. The Williams pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

The kind of weekend a front office frames and hangs on the wall.

Pick Analysis
Pick5 Rnd1 Marvin Harrison Jr.
In pick 5 they get a difference-maker at receiver. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick32 Rnd1 Brian Thomas Jr.
In the Round 1 slot they get a home-run threat at receiver at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick37 Rnd2 Chop Robinson
They took Chop Robinson at par in the 37th pick, which is nothing to complain about. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick50 Rnd2 Troy Fautanu
Taking Troy Fautanu in the 50th overall pick is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick69 Rnd3 Johnny Wilson
Johnny Wilson in slot 69 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick75 Rnd3 Sedrick Van Pran
Sedrick Van Pran at No. 75 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick95 Rnd3 Khyree Jackson
They jumped the gun on Khyree Jackson, taking him earlier than his grade liked. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick110 Rnd4 James Williams
They left a pile of value on the table to take James Williams this early at the 110th pick. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick122 Rnd4 Darius Robinson
A straight-up fair deal on Darius Robinson at slot 122, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick146 Rnd5 Ty'Ron Hopper
Ty'Ron Hopper in the 146th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. It fills a real need, too.
Pick186 Rnd6 Michael Barrett
They did well to land Michael Barrett in Round 6, Pick 11, just ahead of his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick214 Rnd6 Eric Watts
They barely believed it either: Eric Watts still on the board at No. 214. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick242 Rnd7 Blake Watson
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Blake Watson at the Round 7 slot is the proof. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick253 Rnd7 Matthew Jones
Matthew Jones slid further than he should have, and pick No. 253 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
