Draft Grade — Colts
Overall B+
ValueB+ NeedB- TradesA+ FutureB-
The Colts let Ransom fall and pounced. Final grade: B+.

Somebody in pick No. 152 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Colts sat still while Lathan Ransom, the No. 108 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.

Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. That wide receiver hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Reaching for Cross III left real value on the table behind him.

The Michael Mayer pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.

Pick Analysis
Pick22 Rnd1 Jahdae Barron
In the Round 1 slot they get a lockdown presence outside, and a steal at that. Need was not the driver here.
Pick45 Rnd2 Jihaad Campbell
A clean, defensible pick in pick 45 with a little surplus value in Jihaad Campbell. It fills a real need, too.
Pick55 Rnd2 Xavier Watts
The board had Xavier Watts higher than slot 55, and the safety fell to them anyway. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick80 Rnd3 TreVeyon Henderson
TreVeyon Henderson in Round 3, Pick 16 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick116 Rnd4 Jared Wilson
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jared Wilson in the 116th overall pick. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick144 Rnd5 Ajani Cornelius
Ajani Cornelius in No. 144 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick152 Rnd5 Lathan Ransom
Lathan Ransom at pick No. 152 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick191 Rnd6 Howard Cross III
Howard Cross III at the 191st pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick234 Rnd7 Luke Lachey
Luke Lachey in pick 234 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
