Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall D-
ValueC NeedB TradesF FutureB
A costly weekend of dealing drags the 49ers to a D-.

Boards are made to be trusted, and the 49ers shredded theirs for Joe Milton III. He came off 67 spots early, and the room will hear about it. A D- that will need time and luck to look better.

They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. The Brownlee Jr. pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at running back and edge rusher.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up. The Brownlee Jr. value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and running back is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Tyler Guyton
In slot 31 they get a building block for the line at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick34 Rnd2 T'Vondre Sweat
T'Vondre Sweat at the Round 2 slot is a conviction pick that outran the value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick63 Rnd2 Cooper Beebe
A reach on Cooper Beebe in pick 63; the board had better options right there. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick68 Rnd3 DJ James
They reached into another round for DJ James, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick82 Rnd3 Beaux Limmer
Beaux Limmer in the 82nd overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick94 Rnd3 Cole Bishop
Cole Bishop in No. 94 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick98 Rnd3 Christian Mahogany
They took Christian Mahogany at par in pick 98, which is nothing to complain about. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick125 Rnd4 Ben Sinnott
Ben Sinnott in slot 125 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick132 Rnd4 Joe Milton III
They left a pile of value on the table to take Joe Milton III this early at No. 132. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick136 Rnd4 Jarvis Brownlee Jr.
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Jarvis Brownlee Jr. adds a cornerback and leaves running back and edge rusher untouched.
Pick150 Rnd5 Jarrian Jones
Jarrian Jones at Round 5, Pick 14 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick176 Rnd6 Luke McCaffrey
A slide stopped in the 176th overall pick, with Luke McCaffrey worth more than the price. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick209 Rnd6 Tip Reiman
A premium they did not need to pay, Tip Reiman a notch or two before his time. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick214 Rnd6 Curtis Jacobs
Curtis Jacobs slipping to the Round 6 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick249 Rnd7 Zion Logue
A big swing on Zion Logue at Round 7, Pick 29, well ahead of any board in the building. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
