Best value of the weekend goes to the Patriots for Restrepo: B-.

The Patriots did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Xavier Restrepo fell into Round 7, Pick 22. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.

The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. A whole weekend of picks and safety is somehow still a want. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.

They chose more darts over a bigger single swing.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but safety.

They barely believed it either: Isaiah Bond still on the board at pick No. 67. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.

Kenneth Grant in No. 69 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.

They will replay Tyler Booker at the 70th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick79 Rnd3 LT Overton
LT Overton at the 79th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.

They robbed the room for Aireontae Ersery here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It fills a real need, too.

The board fumbled Tre Harris all the way to pick No. 138, and they scooped it up. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.

A tight end of that caliber at slot 146 is the definition of value, full stop. A need, and now a little less of one.

You do not let an interior defensive lineman like T.J. Sanders reach the 214th overall pick and blink. They did not. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.

Somehow Zy Alexander was still sitting there in pick 219, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.

Jihaad Campbell at the Round 7 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.

Xavier Restrepo at Round 7, Pick 22 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
