Draft Grade — Cowboys

ValueA-

TradesA+
FutureB-
A masterclass at the trade table lands the Cowboys a B+. You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Cowboys did exactly that with Chidozie Nwankwo in No. 248. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B+.
That Henderson pick is the receipt they will wave around later. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. The cornerback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Walter Nolen
A quiet steal in slot 25: Walter Nolen for less than the market said. The roster fit checks out.
Pick44
Rnd2
Omarion Hampton
You do not let a running back like Omarion Hampton reach pick No. 44 and blink. They did not. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick55
Rnd2
Jalon Walker
They will replay Jalon Walker at Round 2, Pick 23 for years; that is how good the value is. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick76
Rnd3
Malaki Starks
Circle this one: Malaki Starks at the 76th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick84
Rnd3
Kaleb Johnson
A running back of that caliber at pick 84 is the definition of value, full stop. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick119
Rnd4
Elic Ayomanor
Elic Ayomanor at the Round 4 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick168
Rnd5
TreVeyon Henderson
TreVeyon Henderson at the Round 5 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick170
Rnd5
Jake Majors
Somehow Jake Majors was still sitting there in pick 170, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick173
Rnd5
Shemar Turner
A slide stopped in the 173rd pick, with Shemar Turner worth more than the price. It fills a real need, too.
Pick186
Rnd6
Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson
A big swing on Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson at pick No. 186, well ahead of any board in the building. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick209
Rnd6
Addison West
Taking Addison West in the 209th overall pick is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick220
Rnd7
Jamaree Caldwell
Jamaree Caldwell at No. 220 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick248
Rnd7
Chidozie Nwankwo
Chidozie Nwankwo in slot 248 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
