For all the boxes ticked, the Bears skipped the loudest one: running back is exactly as bare as it was.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Morgan. Adding Tyrann Mathieu by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies. It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.

Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
