Draft Grade — Patriots

FutureA+
The Patriots found their guy under center in Maye: A-. After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Patriots committed. Drake Maye is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline.
The Tampa value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast.
It is not that Hart is a bad player; it is that the Patriots had louder needs to answer first. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Every board in the league had Stover lower, and that gap is the story.
Trust the process, because this time the process plainly worked.
Pick Analysis
Pick3
Rnd1
Drake Maye
In No. 3 they get the face of the franchise at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick35
Rnd2
JC Latham
JC Latham at the 35th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The roster fit checks out.
Pick70
Rnd3
T.J. Tampa
Taking T.J. Tampa in Round 3, Pick 6 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick72
Rnd3
Jermaine Burton
They let Jermaine Burton come to them and pounced at pick 72. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick103
Rnd4
Kiran Amegadjie
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Kiran Amegadjie. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick105
Rnd4
Cam Hart
A curious use of the Round 4 slot. Edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots needed the pick; a cornerback in Cam Hart did not.
Pick111
Rnd4
Roman Wilson
They took Roman Wilson at par in slot 111, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick121
Rnd4
Cade Stover
A reach on Cade Stover in pick No. 121; the board had better options right there. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick136
Rnd4
Jordan Travis
A straight-up fair deal on Jordan Travis at Round 4, Pick 36, value and slot in agreement. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick139
Rnd5
Max Melton
Steal is underselling it; Max Melton at pick No. 139 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick140
Rnd5
Tykee Smith
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Tykee Smith at the 140th overall pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick148
Rnd5
Khyree Jackson
The board fumbled Khyree Jackson all the way to the Round 5 slot, and they scooped it up. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
