Draft Grade — Bears

The Bears cashed the board's mistake on Moore: A-.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Bears were there to profit. Rod Moore, the No. 137 name on the board, should have been long gone before No. 193. The board rewarded a patient, disciplined weekend with a A-.

The phones were where this weekend was really won. For all the activity, cornerback went untouched, which is hard to explain.

The cost of the Tuimoloau reach is exactly the players who went right after him.

Bottom line, they did the job about as well as it can be done.

Pick Analysis
Pick12 Rnd1 Will Campbell
In the Round 1 slot they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick39 Rnd2 Kenneth Grant
A quiet steal in slot 39: Kenneth Grant for less than the market said. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick41 Rnd2 JT Tuimoloau
The board had cheaper options than JT Tuimoloau at the 41st overall pick, and it noticed. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick72 Rnd3 Omarion Hampton
They will replay Omarion Hampton at pick 72 for years; that is how good the value is. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick147 Rnd5 Jake Majors
Jake Majors at pick No. 147 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The roster fit checks out.
Pick193 Rnd6 Rod Moore
Circle this one: Rod Moore at No. 193 is a fall that decides a draft. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick233 Rnd7 Brant Kuithe
They barely believed it either: Brant Kuithe still on the board at the 233rd pick. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick240 Rnd7 Jack Kiser
Jack Kiser in Round 7, Pick 24 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A need, and now a little less of one.
