FutureA
The Bears found their guy under center in Williams: D. You can hear the double-takes from here. The Bears took Darius Robinson at the 87th overall pick, roughly 34 spots before his name belonged. A D that will need time and luck to look better.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. Caleb Williams is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off.
That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Landing Coleman that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and interior defensive lineman is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Caleb Williams
A straight-up fair deal on Caleb Williams at the 1st overall pick, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick24
Rnd1
Jackson Powers-Johnson
In the 24th pick they get an anchor for the offensive line, a steep price for the projection.
Pick43
Rnd2
Keon Coleman
Taking Keon Coleman in pick No. 43 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick75
Rnd3
Javon Bullard
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Javon Bullard at slot 75 is the proof. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick87
Rnd3
Darius Robinson
They reached a country mile for Darius Robinson at No. 87, and the board is aghast. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick110
Rnd4
Isaiah Adams
A reach on Isaiah Adams in Round 4, Pick 10; the board had better options right there. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick122
Rnd4
Tommy Eichenberg
They paid sticker price for Tommy Eichenberg in pick 122, and that is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick146
Rnd5
Jaheim Bell
A tidy little value on Jaheim Bell in the Round 5 slot, a step better than break-even. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick212
Rnd6
Isaiah Williams
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Isaiah Williams at the 212th pick. It fills a real need, too.
