Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall

TradesA+
FutureB-
The Steelers won the weekend at the trade table. Grade: B+. The Steelers looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Jamaree Caldwell at the Round 3 slot regardless, 46 picks early. More right than wrong, and a B+ to match.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. Judkins falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick23
Rnd1
Mykel Williams
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 23 with a little surplus value in Mykel Williams. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick83
Rnd3
Jamaree Caldwell
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jamaree Caldwell well ahead of where he belonged. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick86
Rnd3
Quinshon Judkins
A running back of that caliber at the 86th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. The roster fit checks out.
Pick87
Rnd3
Darius Alexander
Darius Alexander at slot 87 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick123
Rnd4
Kyle McCord
They did well to land Kyle McCord in No. 123, just ahead of his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick156
Rnd5
Kyle Williams
They liked Kyle Williams enough to skip the value, taking him in the 156th pick. It fills a real need, too.
Pick158
Rnd5
Hollin Pierce
They robbed the room for Hollin Pierce here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick159
Rnd5
O'Donnell Fortune
O'Donnell Fortune in slot 159 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick185
Rnd6
Jaylen Reed
They took Jaylen Reed at par in Round 6, Pick 9, which is nothing to complain about. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick229
Rnd7
Desmond Watson
Desmond Watson in the Round 7 slot is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick256
Rnd7
Nick Martin
They talked themselves into Nick Martin at the 256th pick, and the board did not agree. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
