The Colts cashed the board's mistake on Bowman Jr.: F.

The trade table was where it all came apart. The Colts shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill.

Reaching for Burch left real value on the table behind him. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. On value alone, Bowman Jr. makes the weekend a net positive.

They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.

The verdict is harsh because the weekend was, and there is little to argue.

Pick Analysis
Pick4 Rnd1 Malaki Starks
In the 4th overall pick they get a centerfielder for the defense, though they paid up to get him. Need was not the driver here.
Pick44 Rnd2 Maxwell Hairston
Maxwell Hairston at Round 2, Pick 12 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick68 Rnd3 Oscar Delp
They paid a round early for Oscar Delp in pick 68, more than the board wanted. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick76 Rnd3 Tate Ratledge
Tate Ratledge in the Round 3 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick108 Rnd4 Jordan Burch
Jordan Burch at No. 108 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick140 Rnd5 Antonio Williams
Antonio Williams at slot 140 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick172 Rnd6 Billy Bowman Jr.
They robbed the room for Billy Bowman Jr. here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick204 Rnd7 Kaytron Allen
Kaytron Allen at slot 204 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
