FutureB
Nobody dealt better than the Colts this weekend: B. When the story of this class is written, it opens with Antario Brown at No. 227, a reach of 72 spots that the board flatly disagrees with. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Loveland.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick Analysis
Pick17
Rnd1
Nic Scourton
In Round 1, Pick 17 they get a premier pass rusher, though they paid up to get him.
Pick48
Rnd2
Tate Ratledge
They let Tate Ratledge come to them and pounced at pick 48. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick50
Rnd2
Domani Jackson
This one needs a full-page explanation: Domani Jackson in the Round 2 slot, miles early. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick81
Rnd3
Colston Loveland
They will replay Colston Loveland at the 81st overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick117
Rnd4
Andrew Mukuba
Nothing to complain about; Andrew Mukuba went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick152
Rnd5
Tonka Hemingway
A reach for Tonka Hemingway in slot 152; a little patience would have been rewarded. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick189
Rnd6
Jalon Walker
A big swing on Jalon Walker at pick 189, well ahead of any board in the building. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick209
Rnd6
Deion Burks
Deion Burks at the 209th pick is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick225
Rnd7
Dorian Strong
A conviction pick on Dorian Strong at No. 225 that the board grades a round light. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick227
Rnd7
Antario Brown
Antario Brown at the 227th overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
