Draft Grade — Bills
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB+ TradesC+ FutureB-
The Bills did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B-.

The Bills spent real capital to be 30 picks early on JD Bertrand, and the board is going to hold them to it. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. The Solomon pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at edge rusher, running back and other spots. They went 6 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

Their trades came out a wash either way.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick36 Rnd2 Xavier Legette
Xavier Legette in pick 36 is fair value, right on his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick60 Rnd2 T'Vondre Sweat
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on T'Vondre Sweat. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick99 Rnd3 Javon Solomon
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went OLB-EDGE with Javon Solomon while clear needs at edge rusher, running back and other spots sat open.
Pick100 Rnd3 Blake Fisher
Blake Fisher at pick No. 100 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick128 Rnd4 Malik Mustapha
A conviction pick on Malik Mustapha at the 128th overall pick that the board grades a round light. It fills a real need, too.
Pick162 Rnd5 Javon Baker
Javon Baker in slot 162 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick165 Rnd5 JD Bertrand
JD Bertrand in the Round 5 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick197 Rnd6 Gabe Hall
They liked Gabe Hall enough to skip the value, taking him in slot 197. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick202 Rnd6 Taulia Tagovailoa
This one needs a full-page explanation: Taulia Tagovailoa in No. 202, miles early. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick249 Rnd7 Mark Perry
Mark Perry at the 249th overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
