Draft Grade — Colts
Overall
B
ValueA
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Colts cashed the board's mistake on Carter: B. Call it larceny. Barrett Carter sat on the board until pick 150, and the Colts did not need to be asked twice. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
Hamilton has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick14
Rnd1
Ashton Jeanty
In the 14th pick they get a featured back at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick45
Rnd2
Malaki Starks
Malaki Starks in Round 2, Pick 13 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick80
Rnd3
Tre Harris
Tre Harris at pick No. 80 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick115
Rnd4
Harold Fannin Jr.
They barely believed it either: Harold Fannin Jr. still on the board at pick 115. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick150
Rnd5
Barrett Carter
Barrett Carter in the Round 5 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick187
Rnd6
Ty Hamilton
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Ty Hamilton. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick232
Rnd7
Clay Webb
They took Clay Webb at par in the 232nd overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
