A solid, sensible weekend for the Colts: B-. You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Colts did exactly that with Antario Brown in the Round 6 slot.
Getting Winston Jr. where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain.
On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most. The skill positions did well by the weekend.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick11
Rnd1
Tre Harris
In the 11th overall pick they get a matchup problem out wide at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick52
Rnd2
Domani Jackson
A wild overpay on Domani Jackson in the 52nd pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick81
Rnd3
Colston Loveland
Somehow Colston Loveland was still sitting there in pick No. 81, and they pounced on premier tight end value. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick117
Rnd4
Jack Nelson
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jack Nelson in pick 117. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick124
Rnd4
Kevin Winston Jr.
The board fumbled Kevin Winston Jr. all the way to slot 124, and they scooped it up. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick152
Rnd5
Tonka Hemingway
A premium they did not need to pay, Tonka Hemingway a notch or two before his time. The roster fit checks out.
Pick189
Rnd6
Jalon Walker
They talked themselves into Jalon Walker at pick No. 189, and the board did not agree. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick212
Rnd6
Antario Brown
Antario Brown at Round 6, Pick 37 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick227
Rnd7
Tony Grimes
Steal is underselling it; Tony Grimes at the 227th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
