FutureB-
Larceny in pick 153 lands the Colts a B, Johnson and all. The Colts did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Kaleb Johnson fell into No. 153. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
If Beck pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
The Starks pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with edge rusher and linebacker still on the board.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick13
Rnd1
Nick Emmanwori
No edge and no loss on Nick Emmanwori in slot 13; it is a wash and a sensible one. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick46
Rnd2
Carson Beck
This one needs a full-page explanation: Carson Beck in the Round 2 slot, miles early. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick77
Rnd3
Malaki Starks
They bypassed pressing needs at edge rusher and linebacker to take Malaki Starks, a safety that was not the priority.
Pick114
Rnd4
Tyler Warren
Tyler Warren at Round 4, Pick 13 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick117
Rnd4
Rylie Mills
The board had cheaper options than Rylie Mills at the 117th overall pick, and it noticed. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick151
Rnd5
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
They paid up for Dont'e Thornton Jr. at the 151st pick when waiting would have done the job. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick153
Rnd5
Kaleb Johnson
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Kaleb Johnson in No. 153, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick189
Rnd6
Jaeden Roberts
They barely believed it either: Jaeden Roberts still on the board at pick No. 189. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick229
Rnd7
Raheim Sanders
Circle this one: Raheim Sanders at pick No. 229 is a fall that decides a draft. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
