Draft Grade — Bears
Overall C-
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureA+
The Bears finally solved quarterback, and it carried them to a C-.

The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Bears spent their marquee pick on Caleb Williams, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. Call it a C- and check back in two years.

They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. A whole weekend of picks and running back is somehow still a want. The Bears indulged a want in Sanders while a need in running back, cornerback and other spots stayed open.

If Caleb Williams and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.

Pick Analysis
Pick4 Rnd1 Caleb Williams
In No. 4 they get a passer to set the clock by. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick6 Rnd1 Olumuyiwa Fashanu
In slot 6 they get a cornerstone up front at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick38 Rnd2 JT Tuimoloau
Nothing to complain about; JT Tuimoloau went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick40 Rnd2 Keon Coleman
A straight-up fair deal on Keon Coleman at the 40th pick, value and slot in agreement. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick68 Rnd3 Sedrick Van Pran
Fair-plus on Sedrick Van Pran, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick104 Rnd4 Tyleik Williams
By-the-book stuff, Tyleik Williams at Round 4, Pick 4 squarely in line with his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick106 Rnd4 James Williams
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on James Williams. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick132 Rnd4 Shilo Sanders
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Shilo Sanders at safety with running back, cornerback and other spots open.
Pick141 Rnd5 AJ Barner
A tidy little value on AJ Barner in pick 141, a step better than break-even. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick182 Rnd6 Riley Leonard
Riley Leonard at pick No. 182 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick225 Rnd7 Jasheen Davis
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jasheen Davis at Round 7, Pick 5. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
