Draft Grade — Colts
Overall D-
ValueB NeedB- TradesF FutureC
The Colts lost the trade table, and the D- tells the story.

You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Colts did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. It grades a D-, and the process earned it.

If Lachey pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up.

The Hunter pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. They left with running back solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and wide receiver is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick12 Rnd1 Travis Hunter
In No. 12 they get a ballhawk on the outside, outstanding value to boot. Need was not the driver here.
Pick13 Rnd1 Kelvin Banks Jr.
In Round 1, Pick 13 they get a blindside protector. A real need, handled.
Pick76 Rnd3 Luke Lachey
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Luke Lachey. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick108 Rnd4 Malachi Moore
A reach for Malachi Moore in the 108th overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick140 Rnd5 Riley Mahlman
No drama and no debate, Riley Mahlman went about where he belonged in pick 140. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick172 Rnd6 Roman Hemby
They reached into another round for Roman Hemby, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick204 Rnd7 Francisco Mauigoa
They went early on Francisco Mauigoa in the 204th pick, and the value did not follow. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
