Quarterback settled, Maye in the fold, and a F for the Bears. Nobody had Omar Brown this high, and it is not close. The Bears reached 37 spots to get him at the 254th overall pick.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. They have staked the next five years on Drake Maye, which is the only story that really matters here.
For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Solomon pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with interior defensive lineman, running back and other spots still on the board.
The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Jackson.
There is no spinning it; the board won this weekend going away.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Marvin Harrison Jr.
In slot 1 they get a matchup problem out wide. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick3
Rnd1
Drake Maye
In the Round 1 slot they get a franchise quarterback at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick95
Rnd3
Khyree Jackson
A slide stopped in Round 3, Pick 32, with Khyree Jackson worth more than the price. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick116
Rnd4
Javon Solomon
Of all the spots to shop, they chose OLB-EDGE. Javon Solomon in the 116th overall pick leaves interior defensive lineman, running back and other spots for later.
Pick123
Rnd4
Isaiah Adams
Isaiah Adams in No. 123 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It fills a real need, too.
Pick143
Rnd5
Nelson Ceaser
They paid sticker price for Nelson Ceaser in pick 143, and that is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick254
Rnd7
Omar Brown
Omar Brown at the Round 7 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It adds depth where they could use a little.
