Draft Grade — Colts
Overall

FutureA-
Some hits, some head-scratchers, and a C+ for the Colts. The Colts did not so much draft Jaishawn Barham as overpay for him, 42 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.
Call it incomplete, and check back in a couple of seasons.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Emery Jones Jr.
In slot 12 they get a building block for the line, though the board says they badly overpaid. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick53
Rnd2
Oscar Delp
Oscar Delp in pick No. 53 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick76
Rnd3
Bear Alexander
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Bear Alexander. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick135
Rnd5
Jaishawn Barham
Jaishawn Barham at the Round 5 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It fills a real need, too.
Pick140
Rnd5
Riley Mahlman
No edge and no loss on Riley Mahlman in the 140th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick172
Rnd6
Jo'Quavious Marks
A conviction pick on Jo'Quavious Marks at pick 172 that the board grades a round light. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick199
Rnd7
Jimmy Horn Jr.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jimmy Horn Jr. in the Round 7 slot. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick204
Rnd7
Oronde Gadsden II
They reached a country mile for Oronde Gadsden II at pick No. 204, and the board is aghast. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
