Draft Grade — Colts
Overall
D+
ValueC+
NeedB-
TradesF
FutureD
The Colts bled value on every deal, hence the D+. If confidence were a draft strategy, the Colts would have aced it. Jamon Dumas-Johnson at Round 4, Pick 12 is 36 spots clear of where he belonged.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. They punted on wide receiver, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Roberts at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not.
The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Kelvin Banks Jr.
In slot 12 they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick13
Rnd1
Benjamin Morrison
In Round 1, Pick 13 they get a ballhawk on the outside, even if it was a touch early. Need was not the driver here.
Pick45
Rnd2
Colston Loveland
They reached into another round for Colston Loveland, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick108
Rnd4
Jamon Dumas-Johnson
Jamon Dumas-Johnson at pick No. 108 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick109
Rnd4
Andrew Mukuba
They paid sticker price for Andrew Mukuba in pick 109, and that is fine. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick140
Rnd5
Jaeden Roberts
They read the board right and Jaeden Roberts was the payoff at the 140th pick. It fills a real need, too.
Pick172
Rnd6
Henry Parrish Jr.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Henry Parrish Jr. well ahead of where he belonged. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick204
Rnd7
Dorian Strong
Dorian Strong in the 204th pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
