GM Baker DRAFTING FOR THELions
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Lions
Overall
B
ValueB-
NeedA-
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Lions kept it disciplined and banked a B. For all the names on the card, the loudest question went unanswered. The Lions walked out of the weekend still thin at quarterback, a hole that has a way of deciding seasons. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
They are betting Van Pran proves the room right and everyone else wrong. Trice at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. On the needs board they went 6 of 9, with cornerback the one that mattered most.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Bralen Trice
In pick No. 30 they get a bendy edge with upside at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick62
Rnd2
D.J. James
D.J. James in pick 62 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick73
Rnd3
Sedrick Van Pran
They paid a round early for Sedrick Van Pran in the 73rd pick, more than the board wanted. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick93
Rnd3
Zak Zinter
Zak Zinter at No. 93 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick167
Rnd5
Javon Baker
The board had cheaper options than Javon Baker at the Round 5 slot, and it noticed. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick208
Rnd6
Jalen Green
No edge and no loss on Jalen Green in Round 6, Pick 33; it is a wash and a sensible one. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick251
Rnd7
Tatum Bethune
Tatum Bethune at the 251st overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. The roster fit checks out.
