FutureB
The Colts worked the phones like thieves and earned a B+. Give the war room a raise for the dealing alone. The Colts came out ahead on every exchange that mattered, and it was not close. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B+.
Every board in the league had Franklin lower, and that gap is the story. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick Analysis
Pick22
Rnd1
Xavier Legette
In slot 22 they get a true top target at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick53
Rnd2
T'Vondre Sweat
T'Vondre Sweat in the 53rd pick is fair value, right on his grade. It fills a real need, too.
Pick64
Rnd2
D.J. James
They took D.J. James at par in pick 64, which is nothing to complain about. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick82
Rnd3
Junior Colson
They did well to land Junior Colson in pick No. 82, just ahead of his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick117
Rnd4
Beau Brade
Beau Brade in Round 4, Pick 17 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick153
Rnd5
Layden Robinson
A conviction pick on Layden Robinson at the Round 5 slot that the board grades a round light. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick163
Rnd5
Christian Jones
Value said wait; Christian Jones in the 163rd overall pick says they were not listening. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick178
Rnd6
Trey Knox
Trey Knox in No. 178 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick186
Rnd6
Kimani Vidal
No drama and no debate, Kimani Vidal went about where he belonged in pick 186. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick193
Rnd6
Zakhari Franklin
A real head-scratcher, Zakhari Franklin in slot 193 is miles ahead of his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick235
Rnd7
Trey Wedig
This one needs a full-page explanation: Trey Wedig in Round 7, Pick 15, miles early. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
