FutureB-
The Colts kept it disciplined and banked a B-. If confidence were a draft strategy, the Colts would have aced it. Evan Anderson at pick No. 234 is 48 spots clear of where he belonged. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
The Brade pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with wide receiver, quarterback and other spots still on the board. That wide receiver hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
They banked enough surplus on Powers-Johnson to cover a lot of smaller sins.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick15
Rnd1
Dallas Turner
Dallas Turner in pick No. 15 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick54
Rnd2
Jackson Powers-Johnson
Jackson Powers-Johnson in the 54th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick82
Rnd3
Dadrion Taylor-Demerson
A straight-up fair deal on Dadrion Taylor-Demerson at pick 82, value and slot in agreement. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick85
Rnd3
Cam Hart
Cam Hart at No. 85 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick117
Rnd4
Beau Brade
Of all the spots to shop, they chose safety. Beau Brade in the Round 4 slot leaves wide receiver, quarterback and other spots for later.
Pick151
Rnd5
Jaheim Bell
Jaheim Bell in slot 151 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick191
Rnd6
Jase McClellan
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jase McClellan. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick234
Rnd7
Evan Anderson
Evan Anderson at the 234th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It fills a real need, too.
