Draft Grade — Colts
Overall D-
ValueB- NeedB TradesF FutureD
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Colts to a D-.

You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Colts did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. A D- that will need time and luck to look better.

The Byrd pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.

Pick Analysis
Pick16 Rnd1 Dallas Turner
In pick No. 16 they get a problem off the edge at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick20 Rnd1 Quinyon Mitchell
A straight-up fair deal on Quinyon Mitchell at pick 20, value and slot in agreement. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick46 Rnd2 Braden Fiske
Braden Fiske at Round 2, Pick 14 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick51 Rnd2 Roman Wilson
Good price on Roman Wilson in the Round 2 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick117 Rnd4 Christian Jones
Christian Jones at the 117th pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick151 Rnd5 Tykee Smith
They went early on Tykee Smith in the 151st overall pick, and the value did not follow. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick191 Rnd6 Daijun Edwards
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Daijun Edwards. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick195 Rnd6 Curtis Jacobs
Curtis Jacobs in slot 195 is fair value, right on his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick234 Rnd7 Solomon Byrd
Solomon Byrd at pick 234 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
