Draft Grade — Colts
Overall

FutureB-
The Colts fleeced the room on the phones and earned a B. You can hear the double-takes from here. The Colts took Drake Nugent at the 151st pick, roughly 59 spots before his name belonged. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. The Williams pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with quarterback still on the board. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick Analysis
Pick21
Rnd1
Quinyon Mitchell
In the Round 1 slot they get an island corner at fair value. Need was not the driver here.
Pick54
Rnd2
Cooper Beebe
Good price on Cooper Beebe in pick No. 54, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick55
Rnd2
Edgerrin Cooper
A reasonable price with a little left over, Edgerrin Cooper in Round 2, Pick 23. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick82
Rnd3
Calen Bullock
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Calen Bullock. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick89
Rnd3
Mekhi Wingo
Mekhi Wingo in the 89th pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick117
Rnd4
James Williams
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went safety with James Williams while clear needs at quarterback sat open.
Pick125
Rnd4
Jaheim Bell
A wild overpay on Jaheim Bell in pick 125, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick151
Rnd5
Drake Nugent
Drake Nugent at slot 151 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It fills a real need, too.
Pick158
Rnd5
Cody Schrader
A reach on Cody Schrader in the 158th pick; the board had better options right there. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick184
Rnd6
Zion Tupuola-Fetui
This one needs a full-page explanation: Zion Tupuola-Fetui in Round 6, Pick 9, miles early. The roster fit checks out.
Pick191
Rnd6
Ryan Flournoy
They jumped the gun on Ryan Flournoy, taking him earlier than his grade liked. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick234
Rnd7
Josh Proctor
They went early on Josh Proctor in No. 234, and the value did not follow. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
