FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B for the Colts. There is reaching, and then there is DeMonte Capehart at pick No. 235. The Colts jumped the board by 30 and dared it to prove them wrong. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The trade work was a quiet net positive.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes. They chose more darts over a bigger single swing.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick26
Rnd1
Xavier Legette
In Round 1, Pick 26 they get a difference-maker at receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick46
Rnd2
Bralen Trice
Nothing to complain about; Bralen Trice went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick58
Rnd2
D.J. James
By-the-book stuff, D.J. James at the Round 2 slot squarely in line with his ranking. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick82
Rnd3
Christian Mahogany
Christian Mahogany in the 82nd overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick89
Rnd3
Jaden Hicks
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jaden Hicks. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick117
Rnd4
Jaheim Bell
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jaheim Bell well ahead of where he belonged. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick153
Rnd5
Jaylan Ford
They reached into another round for Jaylan Ford, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick193
Rnd6
Christian Jones
Christian Jones in Round 6, Pick 18 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick235
Rnd7
DeMonte Capehart
This one needs a full-page explanation: DeMonte Capehart in the 235th overall pick, miles early. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
