FutureB-
The Bengals cashed the board's mistake on Trapilo: B+. Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Ozzy Trapilo got past him. The Bengals do not have to explain a thing at the Round 5 slot.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. Ezeiruaku has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The Burch pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at interior defensive lineman, linebacker and other spots.
The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Tyler Warren
Tyler Warren in pick No. 30 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick49
Rnd2
Donovan Ezeiruaku
They talked themselves into Donovan Ezeiruaku at the Round 2 slot, and the board did not agree. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick81
Rnd3
Jordan Burch
A curious use of Round 3, Pick 17. Interior defensive lineman, linebacker and other spots needed the pick; an edge rusher in Jordan Burch did not.
Pick119
Rnd4
Jacob Parrish
Jacob Parrish in the 119th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick139
Rnd5
Ozzy Trapilo
Ozzy Trapilo at slot 139 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick153
Rnd5
Tez Johnson
Tez Johnson in pick 153 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick187
Rnd6
Willie Lampkin
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Willie Lampkin in No. 187. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick193
Rnd6
Raheim Sanders
They barely believed it either: Raheim Sanders still on the board at the 193rd overall pick. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
