JGB1969 DRAFTING FOR THEBengals

Draft Grade — Bengals

FutureB
The Bengals let Fidone II fall into their laps, and walked away with a B+. The real work happened on the phones. The Bengals fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with.
The Fidone II pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. Leaving wide receiver unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick Analysis
Pick41
Rnd2
Nick Emmanwori
Circle this one: Nick Emmanwori at pick 41 is a fall that decides a draft. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick51
Rnd2
Tyler Booker
A slide stopped in slot 51, with Tyler Booker worth more than the price. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick70
Rnd3
Josaiah Stewart
You do not let an edge rusher like Josaiah Stewart reach No. 70 and blink. They did not. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick81
Rnd3
Deone Walker
Deone Walker at Round 3, Pick 17 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick119
Rnd4
Jacob Parrish
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jacob Parrish. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick153
Rnd5
Emery Jones Jr.
Emery Jones Jr. slid further than he should have, and the 153rd overall pick is lovely value for the offensive lineman. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick193
Rnd6
Ollie Gordon II
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Ollie Gordon II at the 193rd pick. It fills a real need, too.
Pick233
Rnd7
Thomas Fidone II
Somehow Thomas Fidone II was still sitting there in the 233rd overall pick, and they pounced on premier tight end value. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick240
Rnd7
Desmond Watson
Desmond Watson at slot 240 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the interior defensive lineman. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
