The Bengals cashed the board's mistake on Royals: B. The Bengals did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Jalen Royals fell into No. 104.
Slater has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Job largely done: cornerback settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick26
Rnd1
Tyler Warren
In Round 1, Pick 26 they get a matchup weapon at tight end at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick49
Rnd2
Princely Umanmielen
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 49, where Princely Umanmielen graded well above the range. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick90
Rnd3
Zy Alexander
Zy Alexander at the 90th pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick103
Rnd4
Ozzy Trapilo
Taking Ozzy Trapilo in No. 103 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick104
Rnd4
Jalen Royals
A wide receiver of that caliber at slot 104 is the definition of value, full stop. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick119
Rnd4
LeQuint Allen
They left a pile of value on the table to take LeQuint Allen this early at the Round 4 slot. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick120
Rnd4
Jackson Slater
Jackson Slater at the 120th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick153
Rnd5
Kaimon Rucker
Kaimon Rucker at pick 153 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick193
Rnd6
Elijah Roberts
A slide stopped in slot 193, with Elijah Roberts worth more than the price. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick255
Rnd7
Jermari Harris
Steal is underselling it; Jermari Harris at Round 7, Pick 39 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
