FutureA-
Grand theft in No. 119: the Bengals steal Walker and grade out a A-. Call it larceny. Deone Walker sat on the board until pick No. 119, and the Bengals did not need to be asked twice. They executed a plan and it shows in the A-.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. The cornerback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The veteran additions, Asante Samuel Jr. chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Nick Emmanwori and all.
Pick Analysis
Pick37
Rnd2
Nick Emmanwori
Taking Nick Emmanwori in the Round 2 slot is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick49
Rnd2
Donovan Ezeiruaku
No edge and no loss on Donovan Ezeiruaku in pick 49; it is a wash and a sensible one. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick81
Rnd3
Harold Fannin Jr.
They will replay Harold Fannin Jr. at No. 81 for years; that is how good the value is. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick119
Rnd4
Deone Walker
You do not let an interior defensive lineman like Deone Walker reach slot 119 and blink. They did not. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick143
Rnd5
Hollin Pierce
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 143 with a little surplus value in Hollin Pierce. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick153
Rnd5
Luke Kandra
They took Luke Kandra at par in the 153rd overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. It fills a real need, too.
Pick193
Rnd6
Kyle Williams
Circle this one: Kyle Williams at Round 6, Pick 17 is a fall that decides a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
