Parrish should have been long gone. The Bengals pounced, and earned a A. Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Bengals were there to profit. Jacob Parrish, the No. 118 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 153rd pick. Add it all up and it grades out a clean A.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. The linebacker spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
The cost of the Fairchild reach is exactly the players who went right after him. It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Tyler Warren and all.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Tyler Warren
In slot 30 they get a matchup weapon at tight end, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick55
Rnd2
JT Tuimoloau
A tidy little value on JT Tuimoloau in pick No. 55, a step better than break-even. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick89
Rnd3
Dylan Fairchild
Dylan Fairchild at Round 3, Pick 25 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick108
Rnd4
Ozzy Trapilo
A offensive lineman of that caliber at No. 108 is the definition of value, full stop. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick109
Rnd4
Darius Alexander
Nice patience on Darius Alexander, who had no business lasting to pick 109. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick119
Rnd4
Jaylin Noel
Taking Jaylin Noel in the 119th pick is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick153
Rnd5
Jacob Parrish
Jacob Parrish at the Round 5 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick180
Rnd6
Vernon Broughton
A straight-up fair deal on Vernon Broughton at the 180th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick193
Rnd6
Raheim Sanders
They will replay Raheim Sanders at pick 193 for years; that is how good the value is. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick206
Rnd6
Jack Nelson
They robbed the room for Jack Nelson here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
