Draft Grade — Bengals
Overall B+
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesA+ FutureB-
The Bengals won the weekend at the trade table. Grade: B+.

Give the war room a raise for the dealing alone. The Bengals came out ahead on every exchange that mattered, and it was not close.

If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through linebacker. They are betting Johnson proves the room right and everyone else wrong.

Gould at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the linebacker spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Amarius Mims
In the 20th overall pick they get an anchor for the offensive line. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick49 Rnd2 T'Vondre Sweat
T'Vondre Sweat in the Round 2 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick80 Rnd3 Khyree Jackson
Khyree Jackson at No. 80 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick84 Rnd3 Dominick Puni
No edge and no loss on Dominick Puni in slot 84; it is a wash and a sensible one. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick116 Rnd4 Theo Johnson
A real head-scratcher, Theo Johnson in pick 116 is miles ahead of his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick121 Rnd4 Andru Phillips
A tidy little value on Andru Phillips in pick No. 121, a step better than break-even. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick148 Rnd5 Dillon Johnson
Dillon Johnson at the 148th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick175 Rnd5 Anthony Gould
They read the board right and Anthony Gould was the payoff at Round 5, Pick 39. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick196 Rnd6 Drake Nugent
No drama and no debate, Drake Nugent went about where he belonged in No. 196. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick235 Rnd7 Brevyn Spann-Ford
A straight-up fair deal on Brevyn Spann-Ford at pick 235, value and slot in agreement. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick252 Rnd7 Jalen Coker
By-the-book stuff, Jalen Coker at the Round 7 slot squarely in line with his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
