Draft Grade — Buccaneers

FutureA
The Buccaneers fleeced the room on the phones and earned a B+. The Buccaneers went off the board in a big way for James Williams, 44 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. Good, not great, and the B+ says as much.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Muhammad III. They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Jared Verse
In the 31st pick they get a problem off the edge at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick42
Rnd2
Trey Benson
They liked Trey Benson enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 2 slot. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick63
Rnd2
Amarius Mims
Amarius Mims at Round 2, Pick 31 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick74
Rnd3
James Williams
A real head-scratcher, James Williams in pick No. 74 is miles ahead of his ranking. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick110
Rnd4
Zach Frazier
Zach Frazier at the 110th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick131
Rnd4
Donovan Jackson
Donovan Jackson in slot 131 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick163
Rnd5
Gabriel Murphy
No drama and no debate, Gabriel Murphy went about where he belonged in the Round 5 slot. It fills a real need, too.
Pick188
Rnd6
Moose Muhammad III
A wide receiver of that caliber at pick No. 188 is the definition of value, full stop. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick231
Rnd7
Sam Hartman
A wild overpay on Sam Hartman in Round 7, Pick 11, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
