Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall F
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureD
The 49ers cashed the board's mistake on Hart: F.

Every swap seemed to tilt away from the 49ers, and the value they bled adds up to real damage.

The 49ers indulged a want in Hart while a need in quarterback and edge rusher stayed open. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. However the rest shakes out, Hart at that price is a win they earned.

Spend now, pay later; the math only works if this class delivers.

Bottom line, it will take a lot of luck to make this look better later.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Troy Fautanu
In the 25th pick they get a blindside protector at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick37 Rnd2 Troy Franklin
Fair-plus on Troy Franklin, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick41 Rnd2 Tyler Nubin
A straight-up fair deal on Tyler Nubin at slot 41, value and slot in agreement. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick47 Rnd2 Jordan Morgan
Jordan Morgan at Round 2, Pick 15 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick63 Rnd2 Zach Frazier
Zach Frazier in No. 63 is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick94 Rnd3 Caelen Carson
Caelen Carson at the Round 3 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick105 Rnd4 Mekhi Wingo
No edge and no loss on Mekhi Wingo in Round 4, Pick 5; it is a wash and a sensible one. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick124 Rnd4 Isaac Guerendo
They took Isaac Guerendo at par in No. 124, which is nothing to complain about. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick131 Rnd4 Ben Sinnott
No drama and no debate, Ben Sinnott went about where he belonged in pick 131. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick133 Rnd4 Cam Hart
They bypassed pressing needs at quarterback and edge rusher to take Cam Hart, a cornerback that was not the priority.
Pick176 Rnd6 Ty'Ron Hopper
They paid sticker price for Ty'Ron Hopper in the 176th overall pick, and that is fine. It fills a real need, too.
Pick211 Rnd6 Cornelius Johnson
Somehow Cornelius Johnson was still sitting there in the Round 6 slot, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick215 Rnd6 Trente Jones
Trente Jones in slot 215 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick251 Rnd7 Tatum Bethune
Circle this one: Tatum Bethune at pick No. 251 is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
