Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall A-
ValueB NeedB+ TradesA+ FutureA
The Patriots won the weekend at the trade table. Grade: A-.

The Patriots ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided. Little to argue with here, and the A- says so.

They will need Kuithe to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.

Getting Emmanwori where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.

Bottom line, with Shemar Stewart leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.

Pick Analysis
Pick14 Rnd1 Shemar Stewart
A straight-up fair deal on Shemar Stewart at No. 14, value and slot in agreement. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick38 Rnd2 Nick Emmanwori
Nick Emmanwori at the 38th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick45 Rnd2 Omarion Hampton
A quiet steal in Round 2, Pick 13: Omarion Hampton for less than the market said. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick69 Rnd3 Tre Harris
Tre Harris at pick No. 69 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick77 Rnd3 Tate Ratledge
Tate Ratledge in the Round 3 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick106 Rnd4 Jared Wilson
Jared Wilson in slot 106 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It fills a real need, too.
Pick183 Rnd6 JJ Pegues
JJ Pegues at the 183rd pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick220 Rnd7 Carson Vinson
They paid sticker price for Carson Vinson in pick 220, and that is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick238 Rnd7 Brant Kuithe
Value said wait; Brant Kuithe in the Round 7 slot says they were not listening. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
