Best value of the weekend goes to the Steelers for Gordon II: C-. Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Steelers were there to profit. Ollie Gordon II, the No. 165 name on the board, should have been long gone before Round 7, Pick 29. It nets out a thoroughly average C-.
Every board in the league had Caldwell lower, and that gap is the story. They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back.
For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Call it incomplete, and check back in a couple of seasons.
Pick Analysis
Pick24
Rnd1
Emeka Egbuka
In the 24th pick they get a weapon on the perimeter at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick30
Rnd1
Walter Nolen
In the 30th overall pick they get a load in the middle, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick52
Rnd2
Xavier Watts
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 2 slot with a little surplus value in Xavier Watts. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick83
Rnd3
Quinshon Judkins
They let Quinshon Judkins come to them and pounced at slot 83. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick97
Rnd3
Tez Johnson
Good price on Tez Johnson in Round 3, Pick 33, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick138
Rnd5
Danny Stutsman
Danny Stutsman in No. 138 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick161
Rnd5
Jake Majors
They barely believed it either: Jake Majors still on the board at pick 161. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick223
Rnd7
Bhayshul Tuten
They robbed the room for Bhayshul Tuten here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It fills a real need, too.
Pick229
Rnd7
Jamaree Caldwell
They reached a country mile for Jamaree Caldwell at the 229th pick, and the board is aghast. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick245
Rnd7
Ollie Gordon II
The board fumbled Ollie Gordon II all the way to the 245th overall pick, and they scooped it up. A need, and now a little less of one.
