Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall
B

NeedB-

FutureB-
The Steelers let Clark fall and pounced. Final grade: B. Thirty-one other rooms let De'Corian Clark slide, and the Steelers were the ones holding the card at No. 245. Highway robbery. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Nugent pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots still on the board. Reaching for Nugent left real value on the table behind him.
Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick20
Rnd1
Taliese Fuaga
In pick No. 20 they get an anchor for the offensive line. Need was not the driver here.
Pick56
Rnd2
Quinyon Mitchell
The board fumbled Quinyon Mitchell all the way to the Round 2 slot, and they scooped it up. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick84
Rnd3
Jermaine Burton
A wide receiver of that caliber at No. 84 is the definition of value, full stop. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick119
Rnd4
Max Melton
Max Melton slipping to pick 119 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick120
Rnd4
Tommy Eichenberg
By-the-book stuff, Tommy Eichenberg at the 120th pick squarely in line with his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick124
Rnd4
Drake Nugent
Of all the spots to shop, they chose offensive lineman. Drake Nugent in Round 4, Pick 24 leaves quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots for later.
Pick174
Rnd5
Dylan Laube
Dylan Laube in the 174th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick198
Rnd6
Michael Barrett
Michael Barrett is a better player than slot 198 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It fills a real need, too.
Pick241
Rnd7
Jontrey Hunter
Steal is underselling it; Jontrey Hunter at pick 241 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick245
Rnd7
De'Corian Clark
Taking De'Corian Clark in the Round 7 slot is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
