Draft Grade — Packers
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Packers, and a B- to prove it. There is conviction, and then there is this. The Packers took Baylor Cupp a full 102 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. Getting Wright where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes. The back end got a real overhaul.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Kool-Aid McKinstry
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get a potential shutdown corner. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick41
Rnd2
Tyler Nubin
Tyler Nubin in the 41st overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick58
Rnd2
Payton Wilson
Payton Wilson in the Round 2 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick90
Rnd3
Jaylen Wright
Jaylen Wright in pick No. 90 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick91
Rnd3
Dominick Puni
Dominick Puni at slot 91 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick126
Rnd4
Jarrian Jones
A reach for Jarrian Jones in No. 126; a little patience would have been rewarded. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick138
Rnd5
Kitan Oladapo
They paid a round early for Kitan Oladapo in Round 5, Pick 2, more than the board wanted. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick169
Rnd5
Brennan Jackson
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Brennan Jackson at the Round 5 slot is the proof. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick202
Rnd6
Drake Nugent
They paid up for Drake Nugent at the 202nd pick when waiting would have done the job. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick219
Rnd6
Matthew Jones
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Matthew Jones well ahead of where he belonged. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick245
Rnd7
Baylor Cupp
A wild overpay on Baylor Cupp in slot 245, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick255
Rnd7
Jalen Coker
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jalen Coker in No. 255. It fills a real need, too.
