Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall D-
ValueB- NeedB- TradesF FutureC+
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Steelers to a D-.

Every swap seemed to tilt away from the Steelers, and the value they bled adds up to real damage. The math is unkind, and the D- follows.

They will need Jurkovec to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

With edge rusher and tight end unsolved, spending premium capital on offensive lineman is the choice that costs them. They banked enough surplus on Hart to cover a lot of smaller sins.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and edge rusher is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick27 Rnd1 Amarius Mims
Nothing to complain about; Amarius Mims went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick31 Rnd1 Edgerrin Cooper
By-the-book stuff, Edgerrin Cooper at the Round 1 slot squarely in line with his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
Pick57 Rnd2 Brian Thomas Jr.
Fair-plus on Brian Thomas Jr., a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick83 Rnd3 Christian Mahogany
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Christian Mahogany adds an offensive lineman and leaves edge rusher and tight end untouched.
Pick91 Rnd3 Zach Frazier
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending pick 91 on Zach Frazier with edge rusher and tight end unsolved.
Pick100 Rnd3 TreVeyon Henderson
TreVeyon Henderson is a better player than pick No. 100 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick116 Rnd4 Brenden Rice
Good price on Brenden Rice in Round 4, Pick 16, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick121 Rnd4 Cam Hart
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Cam Hart at No. 121. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick125 Rnd4 Cedric Gray
Cedric Gray at No. 125 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick164 Rnd5 Billy Bowman Jr.
Billy Bowman Jr. slipping to slot 164 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick171 Rnd5 T.J. Sanders
They jumped the gun on T.J. Sanders, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick177 Rnd6 Andrew Coker
A premium they did not need to pay, Andrew Coker a notch or two before his time. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick194 Rnd6 Curtis Jacobs
They went early on Curtis Jacobs in pick No. 194, and the value did not follow. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick256 Rnd7 Phil Jurkovec
This one needs a full-page explanation: Phil Jurkovec in Round 7, Pick 36, miles early. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
