Draft Grade — Bears
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesA+ FutureF
The Bears won the night they stopped Lawson from sliding. Grade: B-.

You build a draft on nights like this. Deontae Lawson had no business being available in the 119th pick, and the Bears did the only sane thing and turned in the card.

The phones were where this weekend was really won. Reaching for Walker left real value on the table behind him. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick10 Rnd1 Will Campbell
In the 10th overall pick they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value.
Pick35 Rnd2 Tyler Booker
Tyler Booker at slot 35 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick39 Rnd2 Xavier Watts
A premium they did not need to pay, Xavier Watts a notch or two before his time. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick41 Rnd2 Deone Walker
Deone Walker at the 41st pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick72 Rnd3 Kaleb Johnson
Kaleb Johnson in Round 3, Pick 8 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick102 Rnd4 Gunnar Helm
You do not let a tight end like Gunnar Helm reach pick 102 and blink. They did not. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick119 Rnd4 Deontae Lawson
Deontae Lawson at pick No. 119 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
